The Spring meeting of Trinity Presbytery of the Cumberland Presbyterian denomination was held on February 15, 2013, marking a significant moment as the Freeport Presbyterian Church congregation officially joined the Cumberland Presbyterian family.

Actions Taken by Trinity Presbytery

Formation of a Welcoming Commission

  • A special commission led by the Board of Missions with Rev. Steve Turner as Chair will organize a special worship service to celebrate the new congregation.
  • The service will include:
    • Prayer
    • Proclamation of the Word
    • An affirmation of the congregation’s intent and the presbytery’s commitment to mentoring.

Reception of Freeport Presbyterian Church

  • Freeport Presbyterian Church was received without provision into the Cumberland Presbyterian denomination.
  • This decision was reported to the Stated Clerk of the General Assembly.

Mentoring and Assimilation

Efforts will be coordinated to:

  • Mentor the congregation and its leaders.
  • Facilitate their full assimilation into the life of the Presbytery.
  • Provide training for the election and ordination of elders.

Examination of Rev. Lee Attema

The current pastoral leader, Rev. Lee Attema, will be examined by Trinity Presbytery to evaluate ministerial qualifications and determine necessary steps in accordance with the Cumberland Presbyterian Constitution.
